An Ace Up Your Sleeve
Interviews average 40 minutes, but 1/3 of the time, managers know within 90 seconds if you're eliminated. Can you stack the deck in your favor? Yes.
The following survey results show some interesting (and avoidable) reasons why hiring managers reject candidates within the first couple minutes of an interview. They have nothing to do with job experience, skills, or qualifications. Avoid the following mistakes that can eliminate you before the cards are even dealt.
2,000 hiring managers surveyed reveal the top reasons for quickly disqualifying a candidate:
70% - indicated candidate was too fashionable or trendy.
67% - rejected due to failure to make eye contact.
55% - the way the candidate dressed, acted, or walked through the door.
47% - candidate had little or no knowledge of the company.
38% - poor quality of voice and overall confidence.
38% - lack of a smile.
33% - bad posture.
26% - the handshake was too weak.
21% - candidate crossed their arms over their chest during the interview.
Some seem obvious, others seem innocuous - but now that you know, play your cards right and avoid becoming a statistic...
Happy hunting,
